Although Croatia has not always been the number one tourist destination that people consider when planning a trip to Europe, that is changing fast. This beautiful country is fast becoming a popular place to visit thanks to its rich culture, fascinating history, and beautiful landscapes. Here are ten of the best places you should visit in Croatia.

The city of Dubrovnik is an increasingly popular destination and it’s easy to see why when you visit. Its distinctive Old Town area has plenty to appreciate, including the impressive 16th-century walls that surround it. The Dubrovnik Walls are one of the most famous attractions in the city and you can walk along them and admire the view of the Old Town area and climb Minceta Tower. Other highlights include the Renaissance Sponza Palace and Gothic Rector’s Palace, which is now a history museum.

Krka National Park is one of the most incredible natural landmarks and one of the best places in Croatia to visit. Known for its cascading waterfalls framed against the lush green forest, this park is located just under 15 kilometers away from the town of Sibenik. 3. Zagreb
Zagreb is Croatia’s capital city and although it’s not usually considered the top destination in the country, there is an endless supply of entertainment including world-class restaurants, a thriving nightlife, and historic sites and museums. While other places on this list such as Dubrovnik are incredible places to visit, Zagreb offers a special experience because the city sees fewer tourists than the coastal cities in Croatia. Visiting Zagreb gives you a better chance at an authentic glimpse of Croatian culture.

4. Plitvice Lakes National Park
Plitvice Lakes National Park is Croatia’s largest and oldest national park. It was named a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1979 because of its outstanding natural beauty, particularly the series of lakes and caves connected by a series of bright blue waterfalls and dotted with tufa limestone formations.
It is much easier to rent a car and drive if you plan on visiting. There are no trains that stop at this park, but there are buses. You can even book a guided tour with transportation from a variety of nearby cities and towns.
There are advantages and disadvantages to visiting Plitvice Lakes at different times of the year. For example, you’ll enjoy warm weather in the summer, but you’ll also have to pay a much higher admission fee. The price drops in the winter, but it might not be the best time for you if you don’t like the cold. In any case, try to arrive as early in the day as possible to take advantage of the natural beauty of all sixteen Plitvice Lakes while avoiding the crowds.
